He's got a pretty awesome backstory! It was really cool, for lack of a better adjective. I never expected it.

But the backstories of the vamps (esme, alice, jasper, so on) seem so...infodump-y.

Meaning each character gave long/descriptive descriptions which were pages upon pages long. It would have been nice it each vamp's history/backstory was spread out a bit. But I'm not Stephanie Meyer so I guess I can't complain.
